Save the children!
With Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympics all is not good in the province of British, once again the most children living in poverty live here. If a nation or province is judged by the way it treats its children then Gordon Campbell is indeed scrooge by spending millions on the Olmpics while the children suffer.
Rain Rain Rain
Another rainy day but hey we will have lots of water for next summer and a bonus the mountains will have lots of snow! A far cry from Califorinia this summer where I cooked in !00 degree heat!

A nice place to go
Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Alouette lake within Golden Ears Provincial Park, the park provides excellent camping and picnicking facilities in a number of areas. Boat launch areas are available at Allouette Lake. With heavy summer use it is advisable to arrive early for campsites, or use the reservation service offered by the Ministry of the Environment’s BC Parks Branch. 205 campsites are trailer and RV accessible, a sani-station and no hookups. Pit and flush toilets are available in the camp and day use areas. The day use area, complete with change house and picnic areas, has a large sandy beach with a wonderful swimming area. Surrounding trails draw hikers, bikers and horseback riders. An additional beach area is reached by a 500 metre long hike alongside Gold creek that terminates at “North Beach” The shoreline and shallows are a little rocky but swimming is good here if not a little cold due to the glacier fed creek. For a day away from it all there is little to beat it for the average person.

Daniel Packards Flirtfest
On Friday night (6th Feb) I attended an event that was different in many ways. The men were promised that the women would be empowered to be the ones who instigated conversation in the dating game. After entering the studio at Surrey art centre we were duly labeled with our names and asked to fill in a bachelor card stating some personal details. Just after 8 daniel appered on the stage to a warm but less than rapturous applause, he was dressed in a smart casual way belying the sharp wit he was about to unleash on his audience (about two thirds women) after stating some unspoken truths and getting the appropriate nods and comments he extoled women on the virtues of saying yes and opening the door to what could be a fantastic relationships. As the night continued about a dozen guys were introduced to the women and were kindly but not excitedly greeted. After this “Bingo cards” were handed out with some difficult questions and answers to gleen from the members of the opposite sex, this enabled the women to chat to men in a somewhat non threatening way and resulted in some interesting conversations for this blogger. My verdict, even without the games people seemed to talk freely but the games added an extra dimention, all in all great fun and worth trying out, thanks daniel.

Financial Mafia..
Perhaps they will make an offer you don’t want to refuse… the parallels between the Mob and financial industry are amazingly defined, you have the soldiers, in the mob the enablers keeping an ear “on the street” in the financial industry the cold callers and sales staff looking for clients “on the street”
Level 2 In the Mob “Made men” taking a cut from all the soldiers transactions. In the financial industry the middle managersget the lions share of commissions from the cold callers.
This goes on until it reaches “The Godfathers” who take the lions share of the “tributes”
so next time someone tries to sell you a policy or a financial package ask who gets the commission and at what the percentages are and how they are distributed.

God Vs Politics
Seems to me that despite a tradition to the opposite, religion is being alowed to mix with politics. In the desperate race to garner more votes both parties in the US election are pandering to the religious right. By doing this they deprive the average voter of their fair say in who represents them. Ronald Reagan started this departure from a 200 year old tradition, in my opinion it should stop NOW and keep church and state separate for ever.

Free Internet for the US
M2Z Networks Inc., a Kleiner Perkins-backed start-up that originally floated the free-Internet plan two years ago, appears to have a head start after the FCC dimissed complaints of interference to adjacent frequencies, Free internet with faster speed for subscribers could be a reality before 2012 with 95% covereage some 6 years later. In Canada the concentration of service providers means that the chances of free internet are small as long as they are so tightly integrated with the Government in support and legislative levels, even though the “High Speed ” they offer is but a fraction of what other countries have at a higher cost to us.
Free internet in Canada……..one day maybe, but don’t hold your breath.
